13 Lucky Leap-Day Facts for Hitting US$435 MILLION

Leap of the morning to ya! Ever wanted an extra day of symbolic good luck for your lottery fortunes?

It’s 29 February and this day only comes around roughly once every four years. It’s like a free day, so take a leap and have some fun. Your life could change luxuriously in the blink of an eye!

LottoExpress is here to celebrate Leap Day with our Irish-American combo. You will receive a FREE TICKET into the Irish Lotto and play the US Mega Millions, US Powerball and the Irish Lotto for a chance to win a grand total of over US$435 MILLION.

And in the spirit of Leap Day, here are some facts about the holiday you’ve maybe never heard of:

  1. Leap Day exists because it takes the earth approximately 365.25 days to gravitate around the sun in a year, so 29 February compensates for that extra quarter day.
  2. Leap Year was created by the Ancient Roman dictator Julius Caesar, with consultation from the Ancient Greek astrologer Sosigenes of Alexandria. Together, they created what became known as the Julian calendar, the first to feature Leap Years.
  3. Caesar and Sosigenes had the right idea but they oversimplified the mathematical logic in making any year divisible by four a leap year; this issue wasn’t resolved until over 1,500 years later with the introduction of the Gregorian calendar under the rule of Pope Gregory XIII. Now, a leap year is every year divisible by four except for years both divisible by 100 and not divisible by 400.
  4. Leaping frogs are the unofficial animal of Leap Day. They are a symbol of good fortune, and might even be the official food of Leap Day if there was one!
  5. 29 February is also Rare Disease Day.
  6. The modern Chinese calendar adds a whole extra leap month every three years; but which month is often almost a surprise since it varies!
  7. People born on Leap Day are often known as “leaplings” or “leapers.”
  8. The chances of being born on Leap Day are about one in 1,461—better than the chances of bowling a perfect game (about one in 11,500)!
  9. In Taiwan, it is tradition for married daughters to spend Leap Months with their parents; they often bring pig-trotter noodles to wish their parents good health and good fortune.
  10. Only two families in history are thought to have given birth to three Leap Day babies: The Henriksens from Norway in 1960, 1964 and 1968, and the Estes from the United States of America in 2004, 2008 and 2012.
  11. Famous “leapers” include composer Gioacchino Rossini, motivational speaker Tony Robbins, jazz musician Jimmy Dorsey, actor Dennis Farina, actor Antonio Sabato Jr. and rapper/actor Ja Rule.
  12. The leap year of 1848 is known for the famous discovery of gold in California, leading to the lucky Gold Rush of the West!
  13. In Ireland, Leap Day is known as Bachelor’s Day, when it is tradition for women to offer marriage proposals to men; in the custom begun by Queen Margaret of Scotland in 1288, if a man refuses the proposal, he must offer a kiss, a silk dress or 12 pairs of gloves.

Act today and PLAY NOW, and maybe you could turn these 13 lucky Leap Day facts into 435 million reasons to leap for joy!

Happy Leap Year!
